Toothache

Jordan and I have been babysitting Matthew and Lauren while my parents are out of town. Even though we are babysitting it actually turns out that I'm the one that gets babysitters! Matthew and Lauren are so darn sweet and want to hold Lucy all the time. So, I never have a baby screaming on the floor wanting my undying attention. She gets incredibly spoiled!

We have been having a fabulous time with them, until I had my dumb tooth start acting up again. My previously root canaled tooth has been hurting me off and on over the last 9 months or so. Honestly, I would have gone into the dentist sooner if I thought it was a serious problem. But, my tooth was always hurting whenever I woke up and so I just assumed I was grinding my teeth in the night. And within a couple of days my toothache would be gone! It wasn't until I woke up with a bad toothache a few days ago and I saw an abscess on my gums that I realized I might have a problem.

When I went into the dentist they sent me to an endodontist. There they took x-rays and discovered that I had a large amount of my jaw eaten away by infection. Guess those darn roots still had a problem. (Even though this was bad news, in a way I liked hearing it. I knew my tooth had really been hurting! It was validating in a way. "You're right Mad, your tooth was hurting. You can tell by your missing jaw bone." Ha.)

So, the doctor numbed me up, cut away my gums, and cleaned up all the infection. I was left with a terribly sore mouth. And told not to eat on that side for a few days. Basically, I look like I'm hiding a ping pong ball inside my right cheek.

But, I'm lucky because I've got the sweetest hubby and a couple of kids that I'm "babysitting" who are really taking care of me! ;)

  1. It's really sweet that you're close to the kids you're taking care of. I'm sure their presence cheered you up and that helped a lot in your recovery. By the way, how are your teeth now, Madelyne? I hope they’re all fine. Have a great day!

  2. Ouch, that is more than enough pain for one person to deal with. When I was a younger woman, I had similar surgery, only much more extensive. I think you are dealing with it much more gracefully than I did. I do hope the jaw gets better and you're back to enjoying life again soon.

  3. Your family seems so sweet. My husband would be the same way. He is always there for me if I am need of anything. Even if I don't need anything, he is there just trying to make me happy. I had a toothache a year ago and he acted the same way. Love my man so much.
